How to Be a More Effective Leader the C’s to Leadership: The Transcript

Do you know the four Cs of leadership? Leadership is a huge conversation that is happening all around us and I talk about it all the time on the podcast, in my writing, everything that’s going on around leadership, but I want to share with you the four Cs that I see most important for you to be a more effective leader.

Hi, my name’s Gene Hammett, I work with hyper-growth companies to help them understand hyper growth and help them create growth inside their leadership and culture. It all comes down to one thing, getting people to feel like they’re owners inside the company. Now I love what I do, I love working with companies that are on the Inc. 5000 list but I share with you today the four Cs. So let’s go over them.

The first one is clarity. You’ve gotta be really clear about what you want, where you’re going and when you’re leading, clarity is so important to not just you but everyone around you and it really does, you can’t fake it til you make it, you really gotta understand where you’re going. Now I’m not saying you have to have everything figured out but you do have to understand that clarity is critical to your success.

Now the next one is confidence. You’ve got to have confidence that you could actually make that happen. You’ve got to instill confidence in the people that you work with, you’ve got to ooze confidence around this, you’ve gotta be optimistic. A lot of you wanna talk about being real or realism, I just have seen so much happen because you’re just so confident, you’re so optimistic about what you can create inside what you’re doing.

Now the third C behind this, almost got ahead there, is courage, courage is so much a part of leadership. You’ve listened to any of my podcasts, I’m always talking at the end how to lead with courage or that you should be leading with courage. Courage comes at us from all angles because fear is going to be around us. A lot of people say that they don’t have fear but if I said for you to double your prices or for you to double your goals, you would have fear inside you, you would feel it in your body, you would feel it in your emotions so there’s always some more courage that you could be chesting and the one thing that you want to do as a leader is to always be courageous and let others see your courage and encourage them to be courageous because this is not just about you, it’s about their growth too.

Finally, the fourth C is commitment. You’ve got to commit to getting the work done, you’ve got to commit to the goal, you’ve got to own it, you’ve gotta have buy in around it and you can’t be one foot in and one foot out, you’ve gotta commit. That means you’ve gotta get your people to commit to their goals and commit to what they’re doing and growing, all of this goes into really very simple way of looking at leadership from my perspective.

You just have to ask yourself, “Are you clear about where you’re going?” Or could you get more clear? You’ve gotta say, “Am I confident that we can get there?” What would be the most courageous thing that we could do in this area and how committed are you? Those four questions will really help you understand how to move forward as a leader but it’s not just about you, it’s about how you’re asking other people to step into their form of leadership and what they’re doing with their work and take real ownership of it. I work with these hyper-growth companies and when I see them realize that they’re not doing the work they think they are, a lot of people think their culture is strong and they think that they’re doing it but they’re just not. But when we look at the level of clarity, the level of confidence, the level of courage and the level of commitment, there’s always room for improvement.

So I share this with you today because I want you to be the best leader you can be and I love what I do, I love sharing these insights. Hopefully you love leaders in the trenches. Maybe you’ve subscribed already, maybe you’ve given us a rating review, if you have, thank you so much. If you haven’t, what’s up? All that to be said is I say all of this to help you be a more effective leader and help you have clarity, have confidence, have courage and have commitment. And for you to get those things back from the others that you’re working with. That’s what leadership is all about. All right, lead with courage and I’ll see you next time.

A QUICK FAVOR
