We have all heard that sponsoring is a numbers game. You have to get 100 leads to get 10 presentations to get one person sponsored. So a lot of people think that changing that conversion rate to 2 out of 10 by overcoming cost objections or any other objection is the ticket.
Lee's humble opinion - Horse manure. I don't waste my time overcoming objections. Either you get it or you don't. There are 80,000 people a day looking for me (substitute you here) on the web every day, and they want what you have. Every minute you spend trying to convince someone against their will that what you have to offer is "the best", is time you don't have to find that star performer who is motivated, willing to learn, and willing to earn, who is looking for you. This whole industry, whether you call it Home Based Business opportunity, Network Marketing, or MLM is based on one thing, the ability to find, train, and support high performers. When you settle for the unsure, waste time overcoming objections, and try to convince, you end up spending all of your time trying to overcome their objections to achieving success, too.
There is an old adage - "A man convinced against his will, is of the same opinion still." Check out your team, how many of those whom you adeptly overcame their objections are your star performers? How many of them stayed past 90 days. Are you calling them weekly to congratulate them on their latest accomplishment or do you have to call them to get them off the couch to do something?
If, you want a high performing team, if, you want to soar with the eagles, don't settle for sponsoring turkeys. If, they change their mind and decide they want the opportunity, they have your phone number, your e-mail address, and your website address.
I would rather sponsor one hot go-getter per month than five turkeys per day. Look at your team - do your turkeys take up the time that you would love to be giving to your star performers to coach them to that next level of success? Change the way you sponsor.
One of my biggest mistakes - I designed some drop cards which said - "we'll do the show and tell for you". What is the message that sends? I'm telling them, join my team, and I'll do the work for you. Boy was I wrong. Now, I tell them, this is a simple business, but, its not easy. You get what you earn and you earn what you work for. If, you're willing to work and want success, lets achieve it together. If, right now is not the right time for you - that's OK - contact me when the time is right.

 | | Keith, according to Google, about 80k people per day do an on-line search for a home based business - so, that means they're looking for either you or me - they just don't know it yet |
| | | | | As long as we are in agreement that it is okay for a person to have a good understanding of the Why, How and What then certainly it is a waste of time and energy to convince anyone to do something over his/her objections. I just don't want to mistake needing to understand for unwillingness. There are a lot of people that want and need to benefit from the trend to online marketing, yet many of them will need someone to provide them the support and the skill sets to be successful. |
| | | | | No matter which side of the fence you are on, all parties must have the same desire and willingness to achieve what is best for the business. To have a leader who cares about you is just as important as the respect given by the person being led. |
| | | | | You make good points LeRoy! You want to have a good quality people on your team. Chuck the turkeys! LOL. Thanks for sharing this with us LeRoy! |
| | | | | I agree convincing them does not work if its not in the heart |
| | | | | Seriously, do you have 80,000people after every day? |
| | | | | WOW, we'll said! You are so right about spending time with the people that are seriously looking. Awesome blog. |
| | | | | I agree. Trying to overcome objections takes the fun out of sponsoring. Prospects look at what you do to sponsor them to determine if they think they can do the business. Most people are not salesmen, nor do they want to be. If overcoming objections is a big part of what you have to do to sponsor, you're in for a tough go of it. |
