Can You Take Criticism?

Can you take the criticism of a person who has opted in to find out more of your business then suddenly starts in on comparing your opportunity or service to another that didn't sit quite right with them?
Or how about someone calling to solicit you to join their opportunity while blatantly bashing who you are affiliated with?
These are common traits of people that clearly don't know the best strageties for gaining sign ups nor leading in their field. It could also be someone that really wishes to be sold on something.
The question is...Do you know how to take the criticism? Do you feed into the discussion by defending your company? Do you let them go on and on bashing, and then when they pause to take a breath carry on as if those things were not said? Can you take criticism?
It is up to you whether to clarify where they are mistaken or if it's worth your time. Usually, this is an easy call.
What you don't want to happen, is to let those words seed in your mind, distract you from the belief held in your business or to let it fester into anger. Generally, I shrug it off and if felt compelled, share "MY" experience with the company instead of defending every little detail.
There is no accounting for when these times will occur so it's all in preparing for them. You should never lose your cool, but certainly there are times when you'll want to curtly cut the call loose. Stay calm and get over it quickly. Onward and upward!

You can't please everyone, so don't try. I do agree if you aren't careful, these kinds of people can distract you from your own goal and make you doubt yourself. Don't let that happen.

The reality is that we are each suited to businesses that best reflect ourselves, not someone else. There is no harm in being proud of your business, but that does not justify criticism of others.
