As a life coach, I love helping young entrepreneurs succeed in business. If you are serious about your success, here are some tips you can use:

When you first got word that you could actually make a living from selling your art, you probably got so excited and assumed that easy days are ahead. But the truth is, to make it in this world as any type of artist takes a lot of hard work. In fact, if you truly want to make enough money to live from so that it is sustainable, you are going to have to run an actual business and not just keep this as a hobby.

This is one of the first questions I always ask when I speak with artists: Is this a business or is it  a hobby? This is going to be the most important decision you make because to get what you want from life, you must be specific. You can’t live in the “in between world” where some days its a business and other days its a hobby. That will end up driving you nuts. If you want to have peace of mind, go all in with one of these decisions. Either make it a hobby or make it a business.

For those of you who have decided to make it a business, here are three simple tips you should consider:

1. Know Your Audience

Having a clear understanding of who your target audience is and is not is essential if you want to become successful. Because when you know who you are speaking to, it makes it much easier to give them what they want.

2. Know Your Numbers

Very often new entrepreneurs enter their space filled with so much excitement and they think they know their numbers but they truly don’t. They have a basic idea of what their budget is and how much profit they can expect but they don’t truly know them in detail. So, its time to break out a spreadsheet and go over all of your numbers and make projections so you know what you are dealing with. Because, what happens if you find out on paper the business is not truly profitable?

3. Get Outside Help

While it is easy to find anything you need on the Internet, it’s important that you set aside your ego, swallow your pride, and get some help. There are people out there with a lot of experience who can help you along this path to success. There is no need to struggle and waste your time when you can just hire someone who can tell you what you need to speed up the pace of your growth. Yes, it is expensive but think about the amount of time it will save you by having someone who can help you along this path.
