Sitting at a computer desk may look like a soft option compared to working in a factory or on a building site. But research suggests it can be downright dangerous.
Sedentary work has been implicated in many health issues, including weight gain, back pains, piles, fading eyesight and cardiovascular disease.
A recent New Zealand study revealed workers who spend hours sitting at their desk--especially those using a computer--have an increased risk of developing blood clots in their legs. These clots can migrate to your lungs, shut off circulation, starve lung and heart tissue of oxygen, not a pleasant thought.
I am not competent enough to give professional advice on the matter. Everyone is different, so I can only recommend you to consult with your own physiotherapist or other expert about your change of work habits. Then you can make your own responsible decision. Just let me help you with a few simple tips and tricks:

1. Scientific papers on safety and ergonomics in the workplace usually recommend regularly switching between rightly balanced work positions as needed. In other words, the ideal office should allow us to work both in a sitting and standing position and to switch these as easily as possible.
I definitely feel best when I distribute my time between standing and sitting. 2. Regular exercize is a must. We all know and we all agree but do we find (or make) the time to go to the gym? To take a walk twice a day?
My solution to this problem? A mini trampoline next to my working desk.
Why a trampoline?
-Bouncing or Jumping on a trampoline is a Cellular Exercise
-Your body has about 60 trillion cells. The 2 to 4 G forces (gravitational pull) involved in bouncing squeezes out toxins. Then, during the brief weightless period when the body is suspended in the air, the lower pressure in the cell promotes the movement of nutrients into the cells. Thus the flow of materials to and from cells is improved. It is like getting every cell in your body to exercise.
-Cardiovascular Fitness... Exercising on the trampoline lowers the risk of cardiovascular disease in 3 ways:
a. By strengthening the legs so that they act as an auxiliary pump for the cardiovascular system. This lessens the strain on the heart. The increased pulse rate strengthens the heart. The strengthening of both the voluntary and involuntary muscular system makes the entire system work more efficiently.
b. Increases Lymphatic Circulation
The body’s lymphatic system is a network of vessels that transports nutrients and drains toxin products from tissues. It does not contain its own pumping mechanism and relies on external pressure including breathing and muscular contraction to propel its contents through a system of one-way lymphatic valves. Trampoline use helps the lymphatic system eliminate toxins by increasing the gravitational pull as you bounce.

Great blog, Ludwina. Did you know that offices that are not adequately ventilated may see an increase in ozone also? Workers in these areas can experience sick building syndrome as a result.
