I remember when…. Guess what, I find myself saying those words frequently. What do they mean? Does it mean I am getting older that I can remember how life was different. Yes, that is what I am going to write about today and I am amazed how life is so different today. I remember when my mother made all of my school and church cloths. I would pick out a picture in the Sears Catalog; she would make it on a paddle sewing machine. I can see it now, this machine in the bedroom with thread she threaded through a needle, a pattern she had cut from a brown paper bag, pretty material for me to choose from. The dresses she made for me were beautiful because they were made with a loving hand. Mother attempted to teach me to sew, but that was not in me. I was more interested in playing “nurses and giving shots to heal sick people”. My mother spent her life working in a sewing plant, while my career was in nursing. I remember when a big yellow bus came to pick me up for school..What a memory. The steps were so high and I was so little. The bus was full, first graders, 6th graders, 12th graders, we all rode the same bus. No one drove a car to school. The school was about 7 miles from my home; to me it seemed like a very long ways. I remember passing other homes and wondered...Who loves there, what does it look like inside, what kind of food do they eat. I remember my mom and dad always had a garden by our house. There were always fresh peas, okra, corn, beans, and potatoes. Gosh I wish I had those now! We did not have food bought at a grocery store. Well some, but not vegetables. This is the beginning of I remember when… look for the next Blog. Carol SB/April 25, 2012

| | | | | Thanks, Carol for the sweet memories. There is a time when we love to look back in our childhood memories. How much things changed! Life seemed to be simpler then, because we were kids; our parents know (or knew) how life really was. Now, we see with our own eyes. What will our children think when they reach our age? |
