A Senior Moment: Some of Us Dodged a Bullet This Week

Most times living in Florida has enviable advantages but they are not enjoyed without a certain amount of risk... This week we faced one of the biggest, & potentially deadliest risks ever known to threaten this state (69 known dead as of this post)...

At one point Hurricane Irma was headed straight towards the area where I live near Tampa... I felt relatively safe in my apartment & decided to hunker down for the duration... The roads were so clogged with people trying to evacuate with only one way out, the gas stations running out of gas so I weighed my options & chose the one I thought best for me... Being 77 years old I didn't want to risk getting stranded at the side of the road with an empty gas tank... Staying home turned out to be a quite frightening experience listening to all the strange sounds creaking & going bump in the night... But enough about me...  ;-)

We all need to ask someone, at sometime in our lives to "Stand By Me"...  This group is "Playing For Change"  It consists of some of the very best street musicians from all over the world...  They each record their part & then it's edited to make it sound like they're playing the song together...  Such talented people... It is one of my favorite groups...

By Monday night 65% of Florida was without power... I live in Pinellas County where the largest city is St. Petersburg & it's the most populated county in the entire state of Florida, 70% had no power here... 24 states were sending power trucks & crews from all over the country many from long distances because Texas already had numerous crews that had come there to help...

It never fails to amaze me why it takes such tragic circumstances for people to realize we all need each other... It's then we all come together in a sense of community & go out of our way to help each other the very best we can...

It's now when the stories will start to surface of eveyday heroes coming together regardless of race, religion, color, or creed with empathy for their fellow man... It's truly a thing of such beauty...
