I was at a business meeting this last Friday and had the reminder of just how simple business should be... Our speaker - in 20 minutes - outlined the 5 basic pillars for Small Business Success #1 - Marketing You have to have a plan to generate lot's of leads for your business. That's all marketing really is. How you do that can be a whole book or as simple as find 4 people that want to have their own business and good nutrition and help them find 4 people and so on... #2 - Sales Have a system and a script of what to say and how to say it to let people know what your offer actually is and how it benefits them. Along with that is a system or script to ask for the order - that's the "closing the sale" part. #3 - Management You need to manage every important aspect of your business and avoide everything that's not essential to growing your business. Managing and prioritizing your time is foremost. Strategies to delegate or automate everything that Must be done is equally important. #4 - Service Once you have a customer or associate what comes next? Again the word "system" comes to mind. How are you going to be sure that you give a good customer experience? #5 - Finance This gets into making sure you are saving and investing for the future, paying your taxes and basic budgeting for your business. Like households, many businesses make plenty but spend more. That's a recipe for failure. If you are starting out in business we have all 5 of these areas carefully outlined.
