Is a VA Hospital Experience in Your future?

“No Veteran should have to fill out a 23 page claim to get care, or wait months - even years - to get an appointment at the VA” - then candidate Barack Obama in August 2007

Here in Albuquerque, New Mexico the Veterans Administration Hospital was just today added to the list of 7 VA Hospitals across the country that reportedly have what are called “secret waiting lists”.

When the story was first reported just over a week ago it was about the Phoenix VA hospital. According to “whistleblowers” (employees who spoke up), in order to qualify for government employee performance bonuses, Government employees created a second set of records.

The first set of records indicated that the Government hospitals were giving fantastic service. So good in fact that the employees were given monetary bonuses and public praise by the administration. But…

The second set of records were reality. They were much longer. In these lists, because the VA did not get around to treating the patient load that they had they simply made patients wait longer and longer periods of time before they were treated for their medical conditions.

In Phoenix 40 veterans died while “waiting”. You can see one of the many stories here http://ow.ly/x23Zz

In Albuquerque it’s reported that 8 Government physicians in the cardiology department are seeing an average of 10 veteran patients per week and the waiting list for some patients is now reported to be 8 months.

These are veterans with heart problems.

Contrast that with 60 percent of private practice cardiologists who see between 50 and 124 patients per week according to a 2013 survey http://ow.ly/x24CA

Private Practice Doctors are compensated based on performance and they can be fired. VA Doctors? They don’t have most of those worries as shielded government “servants”.

Obamacare will make a lot of the Healthcare Industry look just like the VA Hospital system - in time - unless by some miracle it’s repealed and replaced with something better. The lessons from socialized medicine in the United Kingdom and Canada have shown similar results.

When you take free enterprise out of the system the government alternative is full of fraud and lower quality care. Not for everybody but for far higher percentages than in a free market.

Other than vote against all of the politicians who voted in Obamacare there is little you or I can do to change the law.

There is no doubt that there are a lot of very good employees - doctors - nurses - support people - in the Veterans Healthcare system. But the government run health care delivery model itself?...

What we can and should do - in my opinion - is everything in our power to be as healthy as possible in order to avoid the healthcare system and get as rich as possible so we can afford to see the good doctors that are opting Out of Obamacare.

Wishing you the finances you deserve and the health to enjoy it

PS - 5 Million children under the age of 5 die every year due to malnutrition. For about $2 a day you can FEED YOURSELF the best nutrition on the planet and Mannatech will feed one of those children - make the switch from “making money” to - “making money with a mission”
