The hcg weight loss program is based on the amazing power of HCG, a natural hormone with the ability to change one’s metabolism.

HCG “tricks” the body into thinking it’s pregnant, which changes the metabolism to burn the fat while eating a very low calorie diet (VLCD). HCG is the hormone that is naturally secreted during pregnancy to ensure nutrition is present for the fetus to grow. During times of starvation or low calorie diets, when the body has HCG flowing within it, the body mobilizes the abnormal deposits of fat for nutrition. Thus, when these fat stores are being utilized, the weight drops precipitously. It is not uncommon to lose one to two pounds a day on this diet.



Normally, without HCG, ingesting a very low calorie diet would result in fatigue, loss of energy, and give you hunger pains. HCG enables the body to lose the weight while maintaining your energy level and decreasing appetite. Because HCG pulls nutrient from the abnormal fat stores, it supplies the needed energy calories to the body so fatigue is usually not a factor. Moreover, because the body sees a lot of nutrients in the blood, the appetite center in the brain is not stimulated, thus the hunger pains are usually minimal and very tolerable.

The HCG diet was developed by Dr. Simeon in Rome, Italy, in the mid-1950s. He postulated that we have three types of fat. One is structural fat, such as the fatty cushions on the soles of our feet. One is normal fat that acts as a reserve of energy stores. Finally, one is abnormal fat, such as large deposits of fat in the pot bellies, love handles and the hips. The latter are the large fat reserves that make us look “fat”.

HCG works primarily to mobilize the abnormal fat and to shrink the fatty deposits so one loses weight. It does not seem to mobilize normal fat or structural fat well. Therefore, it is a diet for people who want to lose 15 to 90 pounds or more. It is not a diet for people who want to lose just a few pounds for they have little abnormal fat. These people may want to consider liposuction for body contouring to achieve their desired result, or just do mild calorie restrictions diet with proper exercise.

For people who want to lose a lot of weight, this program is for YOU. It is also very easy to do. You don’t have to spend a lot of hours exercising in the gym, although maintaining good muscle tone is important for your health. While doing the diet, you will learn about how many calories are in foods and how to use a food journal to track your calorie intake. Plus, the results are a motivational boost for the successful dieter to continue to lose weight. The diet program consists of four phases, guided intensively, and monitored by a doctor. An initial workup includes EKG and blood work. Then you meet with the doctor to start your medication, you will also have an appointment with your diet coach. You will also be getting a vitamin B12 shot every two weeks and vitals checked for potential side effects of the low calorie diet. Supplements are prescribed as needed to maintain your health so your body receives the essential nutrition that it needs, while it metabolizes the stored fat so you lose the extra weight.

HCG DIET – FOOD GUIDE LINES FOR HCG DIET

The HCG Diet is based on the use of HCG combined with a 500 calorie diet to change your metabolism to burn extra fat and lose extra pounds. Only certain foods are allowed during the diet, as noted below. The diet consists of a loading phase or Phase 1, a 500 calorific diet; Phase 2, a maintained diet; Phase 3, a transition diet and a long term lifetime diet, which is Phase 4.



You will use the HCG preparation for the first forty (40) days during Phase 1 and 2.

Phase 1
For the first two days you are loading up on HCG and food. You may eat what you want during these days, but eating a well-balanced diet is recommended. You want to make sure all your cells are filled with nutrients for the next phase. It is imperative to begin weighing yourself every day and to continue to throughout the program. If you gain weight this new weight will be your beginning weight.

Phase 2
Starting from the third day of HCG, you are allowed to eat only 500 calories/day split into 3 or 4 meals a day. The HCG diet of 500 calories per day is a very simple diet program and very easy to do. Make sure you record everything in your Journal. What to Expect

After starting Phase 2, most people are a bit hungry for a few days. Don’t be concerned. It takes a few days for your body to get used to this new metabolic state. Give your body a chance to become accustomed to this new HCG state with the 500 calorie diet. Be persistent don’t give up! Over the next six weeks of HCG, your hunger will decrease, your energy will increase and you will lose weight. If you follow the program correctly, you will lose weight!! Do not veer from the program and cheat. It won’t work. Your body must see a continuous change in order to maintain this new fat metabolism to reduce your weight. If you do it correctly, these lifestyle changes may become habits that will help you maintain your weight the rest of your life.

Phase 3: Transition
After you have used HCG with 500 calorie diet for 40 days, you must discontinue the HCG. You may notice at first that your stomach has shrunk and you find that eating more than 500 calories a day is too much. Most people will continue to eat 500 calories a day for a few more days and feel fine. They gradually increase the amount of food they eat in the following weeks. The key to maintain hcg weight loss on this program is to weigh yourself, every day.

The increase is a very gradual increase in the foods you eat, but don’t eat more than your body’s daily resting needs, otherwise called your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate). If you don’t know what it is, there are calculators on the web for this or ask someone in the clinic to help you. Once calculated, you will increase the amount of food you eat by only 100 to 150 calories per week for the next six week period.

For the first two weeks after stopping HCG, slowly increase the quantity of the same foods on the diet program, always controlled by morning weighing. In other words, if you start eating too much food you will see it on the scale, if this happens cut back immediately. Use this as a means so you are accountable to yourself to maintain a successful and long term weight loss.

For the second and third weeks, gradually add other food including starches and sugars in small quantities to your diet. Once again, you should control the amounts by daily morning weighing and correction of the excess immediately. Don’t let yourself go and give up on all the hard work you have done to get to weight loss success. Keep Motivated!!

For the final two weeks, slowly increase other foods including healthy fats such as olive oil, omegas, etc. In addition, continue exercising.

The phase 3 of the HCG diet tends 6 weeks after stopping HCG. If you haven’t retained your goal weight, you may do another round of HCG to continue to lose more weight. HCG should only be used for 40days at a time because the body will develop immunity to it. In other words, the effectiveness of the HCG to change your metabolism is minimal after 40 continuous days. However, after a transitional “resting” phase of six weeks for phase 3, this immunity has gone and you may redo the HCG diet effectively again for another 40 days. This cycle may continue as many times as needed to help you lose the weight you desire.

Phase 4: Lifetime of Eating, Exercising and Staying Healthy
After you have lost all the weight you desire, gradually introduce more food into your diet.

A nutritious diet includes adhering to a high intake of fruits, vegetables and whole grains, and low consumption of meats. A balanced diet with a variety of healthy foods provides you with an ample amount of nutrients and a low amount of calories. Lean protein, healthy fats and fiber can help you control your weight and blood pressure, and lower your blood cholesterol and unhealthy fats. A nutritious diet also includes avoiding or minimizing consumption of nutrient-poor foods that are high in calories and contain refined carbohydrates and added sugars, sodium, cholesterol, and saturated and trans fats. Read labels on food products to determine nutritional content.

Healthy Weight
A healthy lifestyle involves sustaining a healthy weight or a body mass index below 30. Body mass index, or BMI, is measured using height and weight, with online calculators available, such as this one: nhlbisupport.com/bmi. Obesity is defined by having a BMI of 30 or above. As your BMI goes up, your risk of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, arthritis and cancer goes up. If you are overweight or obese, reducing your weight by 5 to 10 percent can lower your risk of these chronic diseases.

Physical Activity
Sustaining a healthy weight involves using up at least as many calories through physical activity as you consume from foods. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or CDC, recommends that you perform at least 3.5 hours per week or more of physical activity. Consult with our dietitian to determine the amount of calories you need to consume in your diet and the amount of aerobic exercise you need to expend this amount of calories. If you are seeking to lose weight, you will need to expend more calories through exercise than you eat from your diet. A healthy workout involves at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity at each session. This can include swimming, walking, running or biking.
