With all the excitement of “Reality” shows, one would think people will become aware of the reality around them. Many of you may have kids who are ready to go to college or contemplating on going to college. At one time it may have been a good proposition for kids to graduate from college in an anticipation of high paying jobs.
Times have changed. The corporate world is changing. Many corporations are outsourcing. Some corporations are resorting to assign work on freelance basis or through third parties. Then there is monetary factor to consider. Is it really worth to send kids to college and pay astronomical tuition fees? According to the College Board, the median education debt for two-year degree holders was $7,130 in 2008 -- the most recent year for which statistics are available. This compares to an average of $24,000 in student loan debt for those who completed bachelor's degrees in 2009, according to the Project on Student Debt.
There are few areas where youngsters can really come out ahead without going to college. For several years US economy has not been too kind to college graduates. One of the brightest spot for hiring is in trade areas. Reportedly, electrical technicians are in great demand. The median salary for electrician is around $46000 per year. And newcomers do not need college education. As a matter of fact, aspiring electrical technician can go through four-year paid apprenticeship program and enter the field with experience and a bank account that's in the black. No student loans to worry about.
This is just one example. Simply put, college education is not necessary for today’s youngsters to get high paying jobs. Other areas that youngsters can get high paying jobs are: radiology technician, dental hygienist, graphic designer, registered nurse, paralegal, solar energy consultant, private investigators, hospitality managers, funeral directors, computer support specialists. Most importantly, by pursuing trade area route, youngsters will begin their career without any high burdensome debt, such as a student loan. (c) 2012 Prakash Kunjeer
