Everything You Need To Know About CBD

CBD, or cannabidiol, has recently become a prevalent topic in discussion of cannabinoids. You may find yourself asking questions about CBD, its origin, its relationship to THC, and how it can impact you. Let’s set the record straight.

CBD: What and Where?

CBD is one of many cannabinoids naturally occurring in cannabis plants. It is naturally abundant in hemp, a variety of the Cannabis sativa plant. CBD is commonly extracted from hemp using one of the following methods: high-grade ethanol or pressurized CO2. It is legal to possess CBD in all 50 states and in numerous countries worldwide.

Unlike THC, CBD is non-psychoactive. Using CBD, internally or topically, will not make you feel high. Chemically, CBD and THC are completely unique despite their common affiliation with the cannabis plant. When consumed, CBD and THC interact with the brain differently. THC binds to the CB1 cannabinoid receptor, which is located in your central nervous system. CBD binds to a separate location on this receptor. CBD and THC are unique because they interact with the human body in separate areas.

The Endocannabinoid System

Every human on earth has an endocannabinoid system.  Located throughout your body, cannabinoid receptors, are found in your central nervous system to your immune cells and gastrointestinal tract. Endocannabinoids are chemical messengers that help to regulate immune function, mood, appetite, memory, and many other functions. Ultimately, endocannabinoids help the human body to maintain homeostasis, or balance.

Diet plays an essential role in the body’s creation of endocannabinoids. Specifically, omega-3 fatty acids are the building blocks of endocannabinoids. Quality sources of omega-3’s include hemp seeds, salmon, mackerel, walnuts, flaxseeds, and chia seeds.  Research has shown the connection between diets low in omega-3’s and mood changes caused by an unregulated endocannabinoid system. Luckily, CBD can play a role in the regulation of this critical body system.

Cannabinoids in The News

In February of 2017, the American Epilepsy Society released the findings of a study conducted on the impact of CBD on epileptic seizures. The study concluded that CBD is effective in reducing  the severity and frequency of seizures in adult and children suffering from epilepsy.

The National Cancer Institute, an organization funded by the Federal government, discusses the relationship between cannabinoids and a number of ailments.

– “Laboratory and animals studies have shown that cannabinoids may be able to kill cancer cells while protecting normal cells.”

– “Cannabinoids have been studied for anti-inflammatory effects that may play a role in pain relief.”

– “Cannabinoid receptors found in the brain and other parts of the nervous system may be involved in control mood and anxiety. Anti-anxiety effects of cannabidiol (CBD) have been shown in several animal models”

As research on CBD, cannabinoids, and the endocannabinoid system continues to expand, the benefits of this amazing cannabinoid will become more established.  At Receptra Naturals, we encourage you to investigate CBD, read the research, and seek out knowledgeable individuals regarding its use, effects, and benefits.

What Is CBD?

If you have found yourself asking, “What is CBD?”, look no further. Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of at least 85 cannabinoids found in cannabis and industrial hemp. It is a major constituent of the plant, and represents up to 40% in its extracts. It is the decarboxylated form of CBDa (the ‘a’ means acid). Compared with THC, cannabidiol is considered to have a broader scope of medical applications than THC. Cannabidiol has displayed sedative effects in animal tests. Other research indicates that CBD increases alertness.

The CBD found in our CBD gum and RSHO CBD Oil is extracted via an advanced process from high CBD industrial hemp.
