The Season Of Christmas and The New Year

I wish everyone a Very Happy Christmas Season and a Prosperous New Year!

A lot of excitement surrounds this time of year.  There is a difference between Christmas
and Christmas season. We do celebrate Christmas, not the Christmas season.

Christmas inspires many people to write about its spirit and significance. The spirit of the season of Christmas embodies charity, forgiveness, enhances friendship, unselfish love and an abundance of generosity.

After Thanksgiving, and leading up to Christmas and Hanukkah, people are feeling a little more generous than other times of the year. They are being exposed to stories about generous people, advertisements about holiday gift ideas, and opportunities to give back to their community.  Charity organizations double their efforts to raise funds during this time and particularly during the period between December 27 and 31, believing that many people still have resolutions of doing good on their mind. Perhaps it is no wonder that the Season of Christmas is also known as the Season of Mothering!

The act of giving and helping those in need should not be exercised only during the Christmas season but all the time throughout the year.  As John Greenleaf Whittier, one of the great American poets rightly said in this regard “somehow, not only for Christmas but all the long year through, the joy that you give to others is the joy that comes back to
you.  And the more you spend in blessing the poor and lonely and sad, the more of your heart's possessing returns to you glad.”

It is no secret that the season of Christmas can be a financially stressful time for many people.  That takes away the fun out of the festival season.  The good thing about Christmas is that it comes once every year and at the same time. So with a little bit of planning, it is possible to take the stress out and stay debt free.

Respectfully yours,

Mary Mirembe
