Do You Really Know What You Want?

The starting point of all achievement is desire. Napoleon Hill
That may sound like a somewhat rhetorical question, but is it really?  We all hear people all of the time talk about the fact that they want to be successful, but how many have ever really defined what that means?  To some that could mean rising to the top in their profession.  To others that might mean having enough to provide some of the "little extras" for their family. And to some it could mean having enough wealth to live the life of their dreams.
My premise is that we have to first clarify what we mean when we talk about being successful before we can begin to take steps to make it a reality.  I believe success is tied very closely to what one views as their purpose.  Many people live their lives without having a purpose -- a guiding plan for what their lives should be about.  What one accomplishes in life and how one goes about planning and executing will reveal what they see as their purpose.
I cannot determine the purpose that anyone should have for their life any more than I can determine how they will define success and how to obtain it.  There are, however, some basic principles that must be followed if one truly wants to be successful, no matter what their definition of success may be.  Richard St. John had some quick thoughts on that subject.
