If you know the riddle of the man who was going to a fair and along the way he describes meeting a number of people and at the end of it asks how many people went to the fair, then you will remember at first trying to figure out ahe answer.
The answer of course being only one; the man himself. The other people were just to distract and confuse you.
On your way also to the fair (achieving your goals) you too will also meet many destractions dressed as if going to the fair and just like the riddle, the many wives might have many baskets with many cats ect ect....
It is no wonder then that many people forget about the original person going to the fair and focus on the facinating man with the many wives and on it goes. Like the riddle you get caught up in the crowd and your focus goes in the wrong direction.
The difference being that the riddle is for fun but time and energy spent on something that leads you away from your original path or goals just brings frustration.
I have learned one other lesson from this riddle and that is to keep focused on the person who knows where they are going. Notice the person telling the story knows where they are going (they tell you at the beginning of the riddle). We need to listen to those who have gone the route we are wishing to take so that we too can make it to the fair.
