You would need an SEM if you have an existing website that needs Internet exposure or marketing and advertising. You do need online presence to be established from on-page and off-page traffic generation.

SEM allows you to have a control in maintaining some of your website advertising campaigns by telling you how effective is one particular ad to your customer. You can minimize your advertising costs by pulling out what does not work and invest the money into some techniques that work. But of course, most of the website owners want to outsource their SEM so that they can concentrate more on their product instead. Coordinate with your SEM firm about keywords for you website. This is important so that the right customers will get the right links and end up with the right products on your page.

Always be clear about what you want to get in a realistic point of view about your goals in SEM so that the firm you hire to do this can work with your expectations. It is impossible to guarantee results for your SEM but remember that you are paying for the consultancy and services of SEM companies.
