Don't ya just haaaaate Spam? I'm not talking about that ooey gooey canned meat product that you may have had to eat as a kid. Well, I hate that too! :-(

Spam and Eggs

You know what I'm talking about. It's those unwanted emails and advertisements that bombard your inbox incessantly.

Some of what we consider Spam is actually from lists we have subscribed to or products we have purchased online or even offline. Those emails seem like spam but they are the ones we forgot about. Go ahead...admit it!!

However, there are the sure-enough Spam emails that, thank goodness, end up in the Spam box. It's easy enough to go in there and clean it out once in a while. I have found that there are some legitimate emails that end up in my Spam box from time to time.

Why is that?

There are certain words that can trigger the Spam Filters of the various email programs like Gmail, Yahoomail, Hotmail and so on. Some of those words are obivious trigger words but there are others that you may not be aware of that fit into that category.

Marketing online does require us to send emails from time to time. Building a list is one of the main objectives for many online marketers. The old saying, "The money is in the list", is true but you should be smart about what you write in those emails.

Below are some of the categories and trigger words that can set off the alarm bells for your email program.

Words dealing with Commerce:

clearance, amazing stuff, buy direct, shopper, order status, sale, claim, no fees

Words dealing with Finance:

benefit, cash, credit, money, lowest price, money back, bargain, best price, bonus, save up to, US Dollars, profit, get paid

Words dealing with Income:

earn money, make money, expect to earn, double your, extra cash, extra income, insurance, guarantee, earn per week, million dollars

Words dealing with Marketing:

ad, click, click to remove, click below, subscribe, search engines, don't delete, mass email, marketing solution

Words dealing with Numbers and Offers:

#1, 100% free, 50% off, 100% satisfied, thousand, being a member, deal, g away, prize, you are a winner!, you have been selected, month trial offer, $$$

Words dealing with Free:

free gift, free installation, free grant money, free membership, free trial, free offer, free sample

Words dealing with a Call-To-Action:

visit our website, click here, give it away, sign up free today, see first, compare

Words dealing with a Sense of Urgency:

only today, time limited, act now, get it now, urgent, for only apply now, order now, last chance, instant

Words dealing with Food:

lose weight, stay in shape, hungry

This is not an exhaustive list of Spam trigger words and phrases by any means. Avoiding these types of words and phrases, however, should help you avoid the Spam boxes with your email campaigns.

Happy emailing!!
