September 9, 1978 was the day we got married. That's 38 years ago today!! I was 24 years old and she was 22 years old. Just babies, right? Even though we were young we made the decision to get married and start our life together.

We didn't have a big wedding with gobs of people. There were no Bridesmaids. There were no Groomsmen. Heck there wasn't even a Maid of Honor or Best Man!

There was a total of 11 people at our wedding including us! It was my parents, her parents, her son from a previous marriage, 3 of my buddies and the preacher. Huuuge wedding party!

We had just moved to a city where the only people we knew were my 3 buddies. That's it! We had to let our fingers do the walking in the local Yellow Pages to find a preacher to marry us.

The picture below is of my wife and I with her parents that day. Yes, it's a Polaroid picture. It was the Bomb-diggity back in the day! 38 years ago...

Our Wedding Day

Humble beginnings based on a simple decision.

We basically started with nothing. It wasn't easy. There were struggles. I was hard-headed. She was hard-headed. I had to learn how to be a husband and a parent. She had to learn how to be a wife and mom.

Fast-forward to today. Our family has grown in many ways. We have 3 sons, 3 daughters-in-law, 4 grandchildren, and one on the way. All blessings indeed!

The picture below is how our family looks today. It was taken at my middle son's wedding, which was at our home on Memorial Day weekend this year. (2016)

Vaughn Family

Humble beginnings based on a simple decision.

I'll leave you with this saying that I recently read.

Our thoughts determine what we want, but our actions determine what we get.

I've definitely been blessed way more than I ever thought!
