Trifari is one of the most popular vintage jewelry designers. Many of their pieces are in great demand. Unfortunately, the company was bought out in 2000 and lesser quality jewelry has been made since with Trifari cards, but without signatures on the jewelry itself.
Here are some tips to identify genuine Trifari vintage jewelry:
1) Genuine Vintage Trifari Jewelry was ALWAYS signed - no exceptions. There is no such thing as "unsigned vintage Trifari" - either it is newer unsigned Trifari produced overseas, or a knockoff produced by another company that copied a vintage Trifari design.
2) Trifari jewelry signed with the Crown symbol over the "T" (known as Crown Trifari by collectors) is from the 1940's to 1960's. If it has a copyright symbol, it was produced after 1955, which is when the US copyright law was amended to include jewelry designs.
3) Trifari jewelry signed Trifari with the copyright symbol (no crown over the "T") is from the 1970's to 1980's.
4) Trifari jewelry signed Trifari with the trademark (TM) symbol was produced in the 1980's and 1990's. Most of these pieces were sold on QVC and used Trifari designs from the 1940's through 1950's. These are very high quality pieces and the figural pieces are very much in demand. Examples are the Trifari's Ark and Trifari Safari series.
