Depression - A Real Enemy

Published on 2/13/2018
For additional information  Click Here

Depression is a very serious illness that can cause all kinds of changes in your mood, behavior and thinking.  This might occur once or multiple times in one's life.  Maybe you have dealt with this enemy yourself.

Everyone feels depressed at times and this is normal.  But when these depressed feelings occur day in and day out and last for 2 weeks or more, getting in your way to think straight, stopping you from going to work or school and even affecting your self-esteem, then it is time to get some help.

So what are some signs of depression?  Here are just a few...

Loss of interest and pleasure in activities you have enjoyed.

Feeling sad, irritable, empty or down in the dumps.

Restless, unable to sit still or feeling slow.

Feeling worthless or guilty.

Feeling pessimistic or hopeless.

Thoughts of death or harming oneself.

Changes in appetite, weight loss or weight gain.

Change in sleep patterns.

Loss of energy or feeling tired all of the time.

Loss of sexual desires.

If you have any of these signs for more than 2 weeks, you need to talk to a doctor and get professional assistance.

Just remember that depression plays no favorites.  It affects both men and women of all ages, races, religions and ethnic groups.  Did you know that women are twice as likely as men to become depressed.  Depression does not affect everyone the same, but be on the lookout because this enemy wants to invade your lifestyle.  Don't invite him in!

Staying active in the things that bring you joy and happiness is a great way to ward off depression.  Being with positive people will play a very important role in keeping depression at bey.  Of course there are meds for depression, but try to avoid them if at all possible because of their side effects. Of course if you have no other alternatives, then consult your doctor for the best anti-depressant that will restore the chemical balance in your brain the best.

To Your Health!
