New Linux Installed

The only downside I have found with using Linux, is when Adobe and Firefox make updates with no concern for Linux users, since they don't provide an easy way to update. The positive side of that problem is I can reinstall Linux in one tenth of the time it used to take me to do the same with Windows.

I decided to complete that task today and since I was, I downloaded a fresh new distribution (as of August 1014) of PCLinuxOS instead of the Mint Linux I had been running. Everything went smoothly and I am typing this PR on it as we speak (or type and read if you will). I even got networking up and running so I could grab a nice image from my Windows box to use for my desktop background.

You may wonder why I have both Windows and Linux? I do almost all of my Internet functions and tasks with Linux so I don't EVER need to go through the nightmare of getting infected with a Virus or Malware again, at least not until the bad guys figure out how to attack it. With Windows sitting out there like a big creamy marshmallow just waiting for them to take a nice big bite out of it, they don't feel like biting into a Brazil Nut of an operating system, especially since there are not many people running it anyway.

To get back to PCLinuxOS, I was really impressed with how far they have come since the last time I tried it. It's not only easier to install and configure, but it's actually PRETTY. I run it on an old dual-core Pentium box and it's as fast as my much newer Windows machine.

If you have an old computer lying around, give it a try!
