Meeting A Technical Challenge Head On

Anyone Can Be A GEEK If They Want To!

It still amazes me how many people throw up their hands when faced with any kind of technical problems online. One hit me today and a couple of hours with Google and my trusty Notepad++ let me put it to rest for good. Once you learn how to solve one of these problems, the next one gets that much easier.

To start with, yesterday one of my WordPress Blogs got hacked and I couldn't even login to fix it. I got a temporary page up, but it just reinforced my resolve to break the WordPress habit and go to using simple responsive templates with hand coded content for my web pages. If one of them gets hacked, it's 5 minutes to get it back online since, I always have a copy I created the page from on my own hard drive. Hand coded sites run circles around WordPress sites anyway.

One of the problems that creates, is there are no plug-ins for easy RSS Feeds like WordPress has.

I didn't need anything all that complex, just a way for my readers to subscribe without me paying autoresponder fees. So I decided to use Feedburner (from Google) but that means I needed an RSS feed to submit to them. I searched for a while and found several sites (with conflicting information), but by putting them all together I got it working fine.

The trick was to open one Window with my Notepad++ and another with a browser, then make changes when I found any errors in my Validator

Then I just uploaded the XML file (plain text) and test again.

Well I don't want to get too deep here, but if any of you would like to know more (without spending as much time as I did), I can send you the details and help you get one running for any newsfeed you want to create.
