Ultimate Protection Online

Malware and Virus Protection is CRITICAL to protect your computer while being online today and it gets more critical every day it seems. Don't lul yourself into a false sense of security just because it has never hit you YET!

I had a few nightmare experiences years ago, that pushed me to learn more about Linux and I now do 95% of what I do online using it (including writing this PR). With so much of what we do being in the Cloud today, all we need is access to a browser anyway.

When I started using Linux, it was strictly territory for geeks, but it is so simple now that any school kid can install it and be right at home from the desktop in minutes. Oh there is still a dark alley or two (thousand) you can wander down and feel like you are trying to get a drink from a firehose, but that's why I am writing this PR.

I am not suggesting you jump online and install it on your main computer, at least not yet. What I am suggesting is that you at least TRY IT so you will know what you are missing. That will start the gears in your head turning and you will eventually find a way to add it to your toolbox (just like I did). I ended up buying another refurbished computer just for Linux, it's that good now.

The easiest and most non-threatning way to try it, is from a bootable USB thumb drive. Search Google for your computer name and model, followed by boot from USB. Believe it or not, there are a few that don't make this option available, but most do and it's a simple key press. On my Dell laptop, I just press f2 when it starts to boot and select USB as the device.

Pick up a USB thumb drive (less than $5) and use your Windows computer to create a bootable version to try it without effecting your computer at all. When you shutdown and pull out the thumb drive out, it's all gone and you can just reboot Windows. If you end up not liking it, use the thumb drive for something else.

The easiest way I know of to get a working test running, is with UnetBootin

There are complete instructions on their website, but I suggest downloading a disk image of PCLinuxOS Mate to install.

When you get it booted up, there is a little icon in the lower right of the screen you can right click and get to the network configuration to get online. Then just run Firefox and try it out. My bet is you will be looking for a way to get a full install sooner, rather than later.
