New Linux Treasure

I have been 100% sold on using Linux for any browsing I do online, especially in the make money onine niche. I have been doing that for about 5 years and my past problems with Windows being compromised are just that, PAST PROBLEMS!

Well tonight I had occassion to look into a distribution of Linux that I had tried before and didn't particularly care for. My main objective was to find a simple to install version, that was extremely light on resources to run on older hardware. The friend I was helping, only wanted to surf the Internet and write a few reports to distribute as PDF files.

What I came up with was PCLinuxOS with the Mate Desktop, which is very frugal with minimal applications to confuse him. If he gains experience and wants a little more, he can always upgrade to a more powerful version (since they are all free), or use the included Synaptic Package Manager, which is a graphical front-end to install more apps and keep the ones you have updated automatically. It has hundreds of choices with a simple interface to keep you away from ever needing to use the Terminal mode.

I downloaded it and burned it to a DVD in about 20 minutes, then when I had decided to take the next step, I installed it on a USB stick and booted it on my laptop to surf some advertising sites where I get paid to look at ads. People who do this on Windows are asking for trouble to greet them in the near future.

Bottom line, it has vastly improved since the last time I used it and simplicity is it's mantra, so not only did I send a copy to my friend, but I installed it on a hard drive myself and so far it has been a fantasy dream to use.

You can test it out yourself free without even installing it!
