Goin' Fishin'

All work and no play, makes Warren a Dull Boy!

Spending a little free time online supplies the cash it takes to make retirement a lot more fun, and this is just one example. We happened to catch the Oregon weather just right and had a perfect day on the water with no rain, but not too hot.

Here we are heading out across the Tillamook Bar on pretty smooth water. The Bar is where the rivers that feed the bay meet the ocean tide coming in and it can get downright nasty at times. Obviously the skipper checks that all out before we get started.

He did call us a few nights before the trip to let us know a storm may be headed this way and we may have to cancel, but the night before he called again to give us the all clear. Turned out to ge a great trip.

This boat is the Siggy G out of Garibaldi, Oregon where I have been taking deep sea bottom fishing trips for 40 years and loving it. If you click the More Info link I have a video of a trip a few years ago with a lot more detail.

My goal when I go bottom fishing is to come home with some Ling Cod, which is probably one of the ugliest fish around and best eating of them all. The meat is snowy white and tender with amazing flavor. As luck would have it, I met my goal this trip.

The guy holding the fish is the deck hand, so I could take a quick shot and get back to fishing. The whole boat limited out on rock fish with 8 Ling Cod included, so it was a productive day.

What do you do for fun?
