What are some of the ways you use to get your name out there? Facebook? Twitter? IBO? Email? Of course.... If you are marketing online you are using all of those tools and more (I'm sure). Here's something I use:

I hold seminars and teach classes...and they aren't related to my business.

As a paralegal I've held bankruptcy seminars (no advice - just covered the basics like definitions and what to expect if you go through the process), seminars to explain wills, and classes on basic legal research for people who may need to represent themselves pro se. Yeah, that's a little related to my business, but I don't pimp myself out. I do take business cards and of course I tell everyone about my qualifications and what I do.

I've taught a few classes at homeschool co-ops. Mainly, I do critical thinking and logical debate courses. I gear them toward junior and senior students to make sure they are ready for college. Again - short of giving my qualifications, telling about myself, and taking business cards...I don't pimp myself out.

Why? Because I don't have to pimp myself out. I am giving out my contact info. I use something like this for my intro:

Good morning! My name is Robin Christian. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies. I graduated Summa Cum Laude. I am the mother of two sons and I own three businesses. I am excited to be here today to assist you and when we are done, I will hold the floor open for questions.

Now, depending on WHAT I am doing or who my audience is...obviously I am going to change it up a little bit. If I know I will have a troubled teen in my group, I change my intro to hit them because I was a troubled teen too.....and I want the parents and the teen to see that success is still an option.

Another way to get your name and your business name out there is to volunteer. Food banks, tutoring, park clean up days, whatever you're interested in. Don't do it JUST for the publicity. Do it because you want to help. It does give other people the opportunity to find about you, your product, and your business.

Someone might say to you, "Oh you must be a stay at home parent to volunteer so much." Think about ALL the ways you can reply.

"Yes, I am a stay at home parent, but I run my own business."

To which they say.... "Oh really? What do you do and how do you have time?"

There you go - entry created. It doesn't have to be hard. You now have contacts and next time you see that person and they ask how you've been, you can say something about being great and how it is nice to be able to come in and volunteer and not worry about taking off work (if it is during the week).

Fantastic job here. I seriously enjoyed what you had to say. Keep heading because you absolutely bring a new voice to this subject. Not many people would say what you've said and still make it interesting. Properly, at least I'm interested. Cant wait to see much more of this from you.
