When I completed my MBA studies in 1969, at the top of my class, I never heard of the internet, laptops, iPads, iPods, tablets, Goggle, Yahoo, Facebook, You Tube, SEOs, smart phones, and the multitude of systems and technology advances that are ‘must haves’ in today’s world of business.
One could wonder how I have enjoyed a successful career as a corporate executive, college professor and an entrepreneur. The answer is simple. The technology and information systems have changed but the basics that most contributed to my successes have not.
My primary goal has not been the pursuit of money but the pursuit of happiness. I have relied on hard work, not fearing failure, perseverance, refusing to stay down and living forward.
Professionally I considered my businesses to be my work, my family and my spiritual life. Each of these endeavors require time and resources. To achieve happiness, it has been important to properly allocate a sufficient amount of time and resources to grow each of these 'businesses'. I have and the results even with my ancient education have been dramatic.
I live forward and focus on using the resources I have. I use available opportunities (i.e. IBO Tool Box) to help me understand how to apply today’s marketing tools. I never dwell on yesterday’s lack of knowledge or resources.
Fifty-one years of marriage and twenty-two years of ordained ministry speak to the success of these ‘businesses’. The truth is, I really have one business with three parts.
Monetary gains have been the results of adherence to the ‘old technology’ of merging business, family and spiritual beliefs into one joint venture (…different parts but one body). I do not fully understand how it works but the more I gave the more I received. Your business includes everything that is important to your life. Try new ideas, know when to ‘hold and when to fold’, share generously, do not forget from whence you came but live forward.
