Is your business the victim of Adam & Eve fever?

There are many interpretations of the biblical story of Adam and Eve and why they came upon hard times. My version may be different. I believe that Adam’s problem was not primarily the woman or the snake but his desire to be someone other than himself. Adam followed the snake and the woman because they convinced him that if he took their advice he would be like God.

The ‘snake and woman’ type of counseling is alive and well today. Consider popular advertisements that state, “I want to be like Mike”. If you follow this advice, the result will be the same type disaster  that  happen to Adam. You do not need to be like someone else.

You started your life as a winner when you won the race to your Mother’s egg. Your uniqueness is your strength and the reason you won that first competition. In business,  who  you are personally will set you apart from the crowd and continue your winning start.

When you market yourself and your business in the image of others, potential customers will know you are not genuine, trustworthy or credible. Can someone be expected to like or trust you when it appears that you believe your success depends on being an imitation?

The solution is branding. You must know who you are and market the real you.

Merchants often offer free marketing tools as an incentive for you to promote their products. This may sound like an excellent way to get a fast start and save money. In reality it can be a trap that requires closer examination.

You are in control of the information that is presented. Your personalized promotion is unique to customers seeking the products and services they need or want. Keep in mind that the major retailers and wholesalers mostly sell the same name brand merchandise. It is unique marketing that causes shoppers to have preferences. Their loyalty is usually based on the know, like and trust factors.
