September 29th, 1915 is noted for the 1st transcontinental radio telephone message being sent! A short 96 years later and here we are doing video conferencing with companies on a global scale almost routinely over the Internet and nearly everybody and their mother has a cell phone or other wireless device!
To be able to speak and hear wirelessly was an amazing feat at the time! From New York to San Francisco, some 2,500 miles and later from Washington, D. C., to Honolulu, some 4,900 miles! Yes, you can give thanks to AT & T as the major developer of this radio communication technology.
You gotta love technology! Back then, it was done with vacuum tubes and huge antennas. Now you can walk around with a device so small it fits in your pocket, and you can play games while talking and connect to the Internet all at the same time! And people today are so clever they can do all of that with one hand while driving in rush hour traffic!
It has been an amazing past 96 years! So much has happened, more bad than good though, sad to say. Great stuff for technology, but not so much for the economy. On average, people are paying around $99/month just to be able to talk to friends and family, access the Internet wirelessly, play games, and you still can't hide from the advertising, can you?!
But, having a cell phone is the "IN" thing. And of course you gotta keep up with the popular crowd and upgrade to the latest and greatest, more faster little wonder! And, lucky for you, they also come in many favorite colors and cool names too! No doubt, just a matter of time for refillable flavors or scents too! Who wouldn't go for a Chocoberry?!
Call me old-fashioned, I'm just not hip into paying people I don't know for the privilege of talking to people I really don't want to talk to, any time and any place! I'm happy to talk to them by way of video chat, or we can get together in a video conference. I know just the place for that, and it's far more personal and a whole lot less expensive!
