You hit the gym, your significant other hits the couch. Wouldn't it be nice if he or she joined you?

Here are five creative ideas that might just make that happen.

For some, the arduous task of working out is merely just another chore in an otherwise boring daily routine. For others, working out is something to dread. The mere idea of going to the gym conjures up thoughts of sweat and physical labor.

Things can get complicated when a couple feels differently about fitness. In other words, you enjoy hitting the gym each and every day, but your significant other would rather sleep or watch T.V. than break a sweat. At this point you have probably resorted to an endless barrage of nagging, perhaps even dropping a few insults here and there, only to find that your efforts have proven ineffective.

Instead of pestering your significant other to no end, try employing one (or more) of the tactics listed below. Over time, you might find your significant other has become more inclined to work out than you are.

Gym Discounts

Check around your local area and you will likely find a pretty good discount at one or more gyms. The catch though is that you usually have to sign up with a friend which, in this case, is your significant other. Not only would you get your significant other in the gym, but you would be enjoying some potentially-hefty discounts too!

Fitness in Disguise

Rather than trying to tempt your significant other into the gym for a sweaty, exhausting workout, try persuading him or her into signing up for a yoga class. The subtle, low-impact workout yoga calls for just might be relaxing enough to forget you’re even working out. Aside from yoga, you can also try signing up for dance lessons, community walks, or even a local soccer team.

Man’s Best Friend

Yes, if you have dog, then you just might have a powerful tool at your disposal. Casually drop hints that your pup is looking a little chunky lately. You could take it a step further by telling your significant other that you don’t want your dog to have a heart attack. While it may seem drastic, this might be the catalyst needed to get your significant other up and moving in the form of walks and/or jogs with your canine friend.

Give a Gift

A fitness-themed gift that is! While Christmas and birthdays are the perfect opportunity to give gifts, there doesn’t need to be a special occasion to surprise your significant other with a special, fitness-related present. You could keep it simple by purchasing a yearly subscription to a health and fitness mag for him or her, or go a step further by hiring a personal trainer for a few sessions. Fitness is a hot trend these days so finding a great gift shouldn’t be hard at all.

Be Romantic

I’m assuming your significant other’s idea of a perfect date doesn’t involve a sweaty weight bench, right? Try planning a romantic date that utilizes the natural beauty of the outdoors to mask the burdening monotony of fitness. In other words, take your significant other out for a tandem bike ride, a cool dip in the lake, a vigorous hike through the woods, or some other outdoor activity. As long as your significant other thinks you’re being romantic, the fitness aspects may end up being an afterthought.
