Health and nutrition for children are key factors many parents should be aware of and understand. Young children especially toddlers tend to grow fast, and require a very healthy nutrition meal and snack. At that age toddles can be very selective or picky about what eat and trying to get them to stay seated for a meal can be difficult, as well as maintaining an adequate diet for them.
Balance is very important for everyone; we have to remember that our bodies need a good variety of foods to sustain its nutrition’s. The meals that we cook should have a decent balance of fruits, vegetables, proteins, dairy, and grains, all excellent elements for keeping up with healthy nutrition eating habits. You do not have to worry about consuming everything from every food group into one meal. You can start by looking at the intake to determine your families balance.
Some children who do not like to eat certain things go through different phases; you can supplement a vitamin or protein shake with all the nutrition’s. However, it really does not make up for what the children miss during daily meals. A really good idea for a well balanced diet is to have foods that include all the colors throughout the day. This comes from natural colored foods, not artificial or processed. For instance, you can provide your children with a healthy bowl of cereal with milk and fresh cut bananas(yellow/white), apples (red) and orange juice(orange). Other snacks could include Ritz crackers (brown) with green or purple grapes and make a small sandwich for lunch.
The growing bodies of our young children need iron, protein, and calcium. Try avoiding snacks like potato chips, candy, and cookies because they things that add lots of sugars to their diets and are not good all the time. If you provide more healthy snacks around young children they will eventually get eaten and the your picky eaters won’t be so quick to run away from better nutrition snacks and meals.
