A common mistake that I see so many marketers make, is immediately trying to 'sell' to their new prospects. They have taken all the time and effort to go out of their way to encourage people to Opt-In, or sign up for a newsletter or whatever. Then all that worlk is outdone in an instance by them then being 'sold' to almost instantly. All this does is make the new prospect feel that they are going to be sold to on a regular basis, and quite often they will opt-out almost immediately or in a very short period of time.
The most important thing to do first is to gain trust. The easiest way to do this is by building a relationship with your members or customers by either offering them valuable advice, tips or information, or even better still to do give them free productys and / or services. That way the members will gain a lot of respect from you, and can even get to the point where they look forward to hearing from you.
I speak from experience here too as I am quite proficient with facebook Fan Pages, and when the former 'Landing Page' style pages were in use I used to give away a complete free video training program which would go out on a 2 or 3 times weekly basis. There are people on that list now who have never unsubscribed, even though the whole series is not being sent anymore. This was quite simply because I gained a level of trust in them.
Follow this guide of advice and you will build a healthy, loyal and profitablke list of members or subscribers over time.

I agree, Phil. Trust is something our marketing should be looking to earn from others and a responsibility we should be living to be mindful and respectful of. When people operate as you have described here, others get the sense of abuse and neglect; the once considered opportunity is now just an infection of life.

Folks just don't like being sold to; don't necessary like the middleman, knowing that they are paying more, because of his built-in PROFIT.
