There is a record that actually plays in your head believe it or not. Everyone has a different record,
if your record plays the, "I don't think I can do this" recording you better prepare yourself to change that record. I think that we just get conditioned and other people with their influence condition us as well. Some of the records play because we keep putting it on, playing it over and over again. The only way we can move forward is to have the confidence to do so. We have to believe in ourselves, no one can do that for you. We do need people who encourage us but unless you believe what they are saying to you, that same old record is still going to play.
I know the areas that I need to work on and I do get encouragement from people around me but still ultimately I am the one that needs to prop myself up and believe.
I suggest surrounding yourself with people in circumstances of success, someone you look up to and want to mirror. Mentors can give you the encouragement you need to succeed in whatever area you want to excel in.
It was many years ago in high school that I met a teacher (although he wasn't my teacher) that taught me just how interesting history could be. He brought history to life, not just dry, boring, disconnected dates to remember in a book. When I look back on that experience I relalize that he was the person that encouraged me to enjoy history. He was a mentor, a person that enpowered me even though I was to young to realize the influence he had was a positive in my life to this day!
Look for people that can give you what you are thirsting for and you can put it in a recording to play in your head that will lead you to a positive, confident place.
