The day I stated "I want chickens!" changed my life forever. I never thought I would actually love those 6 little birds. When they were babies they were easy to love, all fuzzy and cute but as they grew into the grown ladies they now are, I thought I would back off the loving feeling. Quite the contrary, I call them and they actually come, better than my cats respond. They talk their little chicken talk to me letting me know, it's a nice day please let us out to dig up your yard again. And of course I give in! Everyday those six little chickens give me their gifts, 5 - to 6 fresh eggs. We know one of them may not be producing, but not to worry, she will continue to be part of our family. We've learned a great deal about chickens, yes they are extremely messy and they love to dig holes in our mulch, but it's a small price to pay for the benefits of fresh vegetarian eggs. Not only do we benefit but family members beg for our eggs and we gladly share the bounty. I just said to my boyfriend the other day...do you think we could add on to the coupe? They are my 6 little loyal feathered friends and right now they are waiting for me to clean out the coup...here I come Henny, Penny, Chixie, Dixie, Minnie and Winnie! I know...

 | | I Love this story. I lived in city all my life and I always had dogs and cats, but chicken as a pet? hum? I wish l could have the benefit of not going to grocery
store every 4 days to get eggs.... |
| | | | | Hi Patricia,
I really enjoyed this Blog very much, you succeeded in making Henny, Penny, Chixie, Dixie, and Minnie more then just chickens. Loyal feathered friends is a good description. I will be adding the blog to my "The Villager Daily"

| | | | | Glad I don't have a rooster, funny how people think we need a rooster to have eggs! |
| | | | | I love this post. Thank you for sharing now I must share:) |
| | | | | Interesting income stream! Some 3 dozen fresh eggs every week just from spending a little time each day with the little gals! |
| | | | | Thanks for your happy chicken story...brought back many childhood memories on the farm. We used to love our hens but hated the big rooster who thought he was the watch dog of the yard and guarded the garden path like any bulldog! |
| | | | | Thanks Roger...I need to clean the coupe! |
| | | | | Day old chicks are like nurturing a new dowline and preventing attrition! |
| | | | | Funny most that grew up on farms til me they don't like chickens anymore! |
| | | | | Patricia, that is so sweet. I grew up on a farm in south Georgia so I know exactly what it is like to have 6 special friends to keep you company. And nothing beats a fresh egg. |
