Back in the fifties and sixties my stay at home mom did laundry on Mondays and that involved caring the clothes up the stairs from the basement (11 loads) of wash and hanging the clothes out on the clothesline. Yes she had a dryer but the smell of fresh laundry outside blowing in the wind most of the day can not be replicated in a bottle. She did this for many years and still does even while she is in her late 80's! Except she just walks out the backdoor of her home and hangs the clothes out on good sunny days. You have to buy certain clothing to work in an office, must have a mode of transportation to reach your job, child care is expensive and you find yourself buying convenience foods because you just don't have the time to start from scratch. So there are costs involved in working outside the home!
