How To Price Freelance Design Services

Pricing is one of those things most service providers seem to agonize over, but it is a lot easier than you think. At first, you will probably want to price your services as low as possible. You may even want to take a few jobs for free, in order to get used to working for clients, and to get a few people who might be willing to offer some testimonials to help you get more business.


As your skills improve, and you will gain a reputation, and you can slowly start raising your prices, but in the early stages of your career, it is important to price low enough that you can attract people, who are willing to accept that you aren’t yet as skilled as some other designers, and they won’t feel anxious taking a chance on someone who has less experience, if the price is low enough.


Once you feel confident about your skills, you can raise your prices to match those of your nearest competitors. Don’t price too low, once you gain more experience, because people will assume your work isn’t good enough, even if they can clearly see the quality of your samples with their own eyes.


 

 

 

 




You can raise your prices to a higher level, once you have built a larger list of customers, who are coming to you on a regular basis. That way you never have to worry about whether you will be able to get enough work, if your work is on par with the very best of your chosen specialization.


Once you have built your reputation, you might want to raise your price. It is ideal to keep your prices just a bit lower in order to show people that they are getting a good value for their money. Remember, those charging top dollar are expected to perform at a level far above everyone else, and that creates pressure.
