It is a good thing when a person desires to be a leader - especially when that desire is motivated by wanting to help others to be successful too!
Leaders should not be viewed as being over someone but simply as one who serves in a managing capacity.
It is impossible to make a person a good leader! Leadership is a combination of the qualifications of an individual and the people's response to his/her qualifications.
As a leader, you must have a passion for a particular area of service. You must have the passion and ability to organize, to teach others, and to raise up other leaders to do what you do.
In addition to the above, below are some additional qualifications of a good leader:
Is Diligent And Industrious;
Is Self Motivated – a good leader should require a minimum amount of personal management;
Takes Initiative – is able to make decisions and take action without being directed;
Sets Boundaries – is not codependent and does not feed the weaknesses of others;
Can Delegate – a good leader doesn't do it all but does get it all done;
Is A Team Player – is always aware that he/she is part of an interdependent team and recognizes that others need him/her to succeed and fulfill responsibilities. And, a good leader knows that the team is only as strong as the weakest link.
Is Teachable – only a fool will not be taught. A successful leader is always willing to receive instruction and input;
Is Relational – he/she will always strive to have healthy relationships with those he/she is leading;
Personal Development – recognizes the need for personal development for him/herself and the people he/she is leading and is always looking for ways to improve.
Can Handle Failure – never needs to blame someone else or become defensive;
Is Willing To Follow Established Policies, Procedures And Guidelines;
Is Willing To Take Personal Responsibility – always functions on a high level to report progress being made or real problems that may be impeding the desired progress.
If you have the above qualifications, then you have the potential to be good leader.
