A Timely Plan
There are 60 seconds in a minute, 60 minutes in an hour. Assume 8 hours of sleep in a day, 3 hours for eating, getting dressed, showers add other personal activities and we may have on average 13 hours of time available to get some work done.13 hrs times 60 minutes is 780 minutes, or 46800 seconds. Seems like a lot of time eh? But how much can you actually do in that time How come the end of the day arrives and we ask…”where did the time go?”.. “I was supposed to do this, that or the other but just didn’t have time!”
I am not a time management freak who sits there with a stop watch and suggests that we shave an extra 5 seconds off each of the 200+ average things we do each day (200×5=1000 seconds = an extra 16.6 minutes per day). Thats just plain going over board.
However having a planner and setting out your day will most definitely allow you to get more done as opposed to a hap-hazard approach to “getting everything done somehow”.
Nowhere is this more important than when you are in business for yourself. Calls must be returned in a timely manner, there is no foreman or boss to oversee your actions, You have to do it yourself, orders placed, appointments kept, deliveries scheduled etc.
Beyond a daily planner a short range, a moderate range and a long range plan must also be in place so that you can check the progress you are making. It is hard to establish the success or failure of something if there is no criteria to check it against.
A famous gentleman once said that eternal vigilance is the price of freedom. If you are a self employed businessman, an entrepreneur and looking for the freedom to live life the way you want to. You will need to be vigilant of your time and how you use it lest it be squandered away and you have nothing to show for it.
