How To Start Your Own Business
You are about to learn the basic steps to start your own business. While the information is generic it will apply towards almost any business it is no less valid than a step by step training for a specific niche.
Please make no mistake about it, there is no such thing as a free lunch or just making a little extra pocket money that you do not declare. By yourself or with partners in a business you will be making money which you must pay taxes on once you have collected it.
You need a reason, a motivating prime directive. Something that will keep you striving for that goal you have when things go slowly or you suffer a setback. Anyone can start something but only successful people finish what they start.
You need a goal. An extra $200 a month by a certain time, a new car by a specific date, perhaps being able to fire your boss when he turns you down for a raise. Whatever the reason is, you need one.
A plan. If your going from New York city to St. Louise you need to know how to get there and have a planned route with stops along the way. So to with a business, you will need to have a step by step plan to lead you from start to goal with progress evaluation points along the way.
This is actually tied into the success or failure of anything you do. All successful people write down their goals, reasons and their plans and they check them daily. Sometimes several times a day and you too must do this to keep focused.
Have an office and keep business hours, even if its just a room in the back of the house.
Select a business name, check on its availability both off, at the county clerks office and on line at Who Is.
Get a Federal Employer Identification Number. Businesses must have this.
Get a business bank account. The IRS can make your life a living hell if you mingle business and personal monies, don’t do it!
Business phone number and answering service, after all you are a business and answering the phone at supper is not what you want.
Advertising is a must, without customers knowing who you are and what you offer your business is dead. Business cards are good for off line, while a website, email addy and promotions are a necessity on-line.
