The concept of a home based business.

Millions of people around the world are now very familiar with the idea that one can make money on the internet. There are billions of people now using the internet, and the number of people with an online business has increased significantly in the past 5 years. In the US alone, there are 1o to 14 million people who are looking for ways to make money on the internet. This trend obviously started in the early 1990s when the internet was in its infancy. Recalling that period, many people became millionaires overnight. Some lost money of course in the bubble that was to follow, but many retained a significant portion of the wealth that they had accumulated. The concept of a home based business had its beginning several decades early, about 40 years ago when Amway had its beginning. Although the business model was a lot different 40 + years ago, the concept of the business is very much the same today as it was 40+ years ago, with slight variations. One of the major differences in the concept of a home based business in those days as opposed to now is in the way that the business is operated. Amway relied on people to people contact and interaction, business meetings, hotel meetings, home meetings and face to face contact. The internet has completely changed the way that a home based business is built. It has allowed individuals in corner of the World to be able to build a business with customers in different countries. There is less need for traveling to attend meetings, have a conversation with someone is easily done online. Although there are now slight variations of the concept of the home based business, the core practice is still the same. There are many different reasons and many different ways to have a home based business now. In the early days, the concept focused more on getting people to build a business based on the products that they are already buying on a daily basis. There was no change at all to the family budget, and no additional expenditures were necessary. What was necessary however is a change in thinking, a change in attitude with respect to shopping. The idea simply was that the everyday household products that all Americans were accustomed to buying in a Super Market, could be purchased in one’s own business, one’s own store, so to speak with the use of a Multi Level Company like Amway that produced the products and sell it at a much cheaper price because they would cut down the middle man. It was tough going at first, but the idea caught fire on a global scale. Ironically, other companies cashed in on the concept much before Amway had a significant piece of the huge market that was to develop. In the early days, the targeted products were things like household cleaners, Laundry detergent, and other consumable products. The industry now has thousands of products sold in multi-level companies, all with the goal of cutting down the costs for the middleman and costs of advertising. Another difference now is that in the past, the strategy of the Multi-level marketing was designed largely to cut down on the huge advertising budget companies would have to introduce new products on the market. In a traditional business model, hundreds of millions of dollars would be outlayed by companies as part of introducing new products to the market. Because of that companies would spend years of deficits promoting a product before they would break even and start generating profits. Now, it is the much different. MLM companies spend very little in marketing and advertising and rely on their distributors to bear the costs of advertising and promoting the product. The business model is a bare operation of little or no costs to the MLM companies. The MLM companies save a lot of money and generate profits instantly. Changes are continuously taking place in the ways that the concept of a home based business is implemented. A lot of the changes is in the products that are offered as part of a home based business. Just as an example, the latest trend in the concept of a home based business is in food shopping. By far the most difficult consumer habit to change or attempt to change, companies are now trying to get consumers to stay at home, order their groceries on a computer, have it delivered to their home, and make a residual income doing that. The verdict is still out on whether or not companies are able to change sentiments on the most sacred consumer habit of all, the way we buy our food.
