Most of the following information comes from a Techlogon RSS Feed article as taken from my site: http://ThePowerOfOneIncome4Life.com Protecting your PC from security threats should always remain as one of your top daily routines! Microsoft are due to release critical security updates this patch Tuesday (October 9th). The security updates are detailed in 7 security bulletins addressing 20 vulnerabilities in Windows, Microsoft Office, Server Software and SQL Server. Follow this link to learn more: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/security/bulletin/ms12-oct 1 of the security bulletins addresses vulnerabilities in Microsoft Word and is classed as Critical i.e. “a vulnerability whose exploitation could allow code execution without user interaction”. The remaining 6 bulletins are classed as Important i.e. “a vulnerability whose exploitation could result in compromise of the confidentiality, integrity, or availability of user data, or of the integrity or availability of processing resources”. Microsoft recommend that customers apply Critical updates immediately and Important updates at the earliest opportunity. Users with automatic updates enabled should receive all the updates at the same time – if unsure, see our guide to keeping Windows updated automatically. http://techlogon.com/2011/03/26/keeping-windows-up-to-date-automatically/ As far as Windows users are concerned, the Critical bulletin relates to: Microsoft Office 2003, 2007 and 2010 – including Word Viewer and Office Compatibility Pack SharePoint Server 2010 Office Web Apps 2010 The Important bulletins relate to: XP, Vista, Windows 7 Other Microsoft Office software Server Software SQL Server Communicator 2007 Lync 2010 In addition, this month’s bumper crop of updates will see a number of non-security Windows updates and fixes plus an updated Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool. END OF FEED ARTICLE: So why did I copy information from another site to create this blog post? Quite simply to help keep you all informed. Please let me know what you thought of it by commenting and sharing if you have time!
