Welcome...

Last year I had fun creating a calendar, so I decided to do an other one, a 2017 calendar with original quotes. You can download your calendar by clicking on the picture below:

2017 calendar

Calendars hae been around for thousands of years, but have seen changes to accomodate celebrations important to the civilization at that time.  I found this short video that looks at the history of the calendar.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did...

We are currently using the Gregorian Calendar that has been around since October 1582.  It was created by Pope Gregory XIII to include a .002% correction in the length of the year.  It is interesting how knowledge is used to make the world around us more accurate.

Not everyone adopted this new correction immediately, with the Greece and Turkey only switching in the first quarter of the 20th century.  But with more countries making this change, it is easier to coordinate global affiars.

There are other calendars still in sure for religious purposes. They include the Julian Calendar, the Hebrew Calendar, the Islamic Calendar, Hindu calendars, the Zorastrian canander and others as well.

There are suprisingly many different calendars.

This includes:

  1. Julian
  2. Hebrew
  3. Sumarian
  4. Chinese Calendar
  5. Babylonian
  6. Zoroastrian
  7. Ancient Athenian
  8. Bulgar Calendar
  9. Islamic Calendar
  10. Icelandic Calendar
  11. Hindu Calendar
  12. Myan
  13. Javanese
  14. Jokyo
  15. French Republican Calendar
  16. Baha'i Calendar
  17. Solar Hijuri Calendar
  18. Indian National Calendar
  19. Discordian Calendar
  20. Juche Era Calendar
  21. Oldest may be the Slatino Furnace Model

I thought you might like to know when the holidays and special days are in the 2017 Calendar. It is different for different countries, so I decided to post for the USA and Canada
