Concerned about Local Laws for Home-Based Businesses?

There are usually local laws that do not allow a home-based business or simply a business to be operated out of a residential home. Of course these mostly apply to retail businesses or businesses that have customers who are coming to the residential property to conduct business.

It’s pretty obvious to most of us that we can’t set up a retail store in our home in a residential development and expect the city and our neighbors to be okay with that. The same goes for a business that requires a constant flow of customers like a legitimate massage polar. We just had a prostitution ring broken up here in the area where they had 2 business locations for massages and a residential house they would send people to if a massage wasn’t enough.

A couple years back there was an upscale home where the homeowners would have parties where you could come and have amorous activities with your spouse or whoever in open areas and they required a cover charge for you to attend. Residents complained because of the massive vehicles that would flood the area when they had these parties and especially when word got out what was going on at the parties.

The city investigated and the homeowners argued that were just having parties and they had a right to do that and to do whatever they wanted at the parties since it was all indoors. After must turmoil and arguing back and forth the city attorneys finally concluded they were conducting a business without a license since they charged patrons to attend the party no matter how they disguised the payment and shut them down. Of course when the homeowners tried to apply for a home-based business license it was turned down as being a violation of several city and county ordinances. I think they even came up with local codes so they couldn’t have those “kind of parties” even if they were free to attend.

The bottom line is go ahead with that home-based online computer based business with no customers popping in and you will have no issues with your neighbors or city or county ordinances. My advice is to stay away from any kind of sexually oriented businesses even if they are only online. There’s a time and a place for intimacy and it should be kept that way.

Learn about a genuine home-based business which you will have no problem operating on your computer out of your home:
