Low Self-Esteem Leads You No Where

Do you struggle with low self-esteem? I suffered from abuse as a child which gave me a feeling of self-esteem issues at an early age. Of course I didn’t know that is what it was called. I was quiet and very shy and was scared to death to talk in front of more than one person at a time.

I was told I had a great talent for sports and had outstanding performances in practice. However, when it came time for an actual game in front of an audience, I froze. I couldn’t do anything. I couldn’t perform oral assignments in front of a class. I got away with it in high school, but once I got to college I was told speech was a required class for any major.

I decided to take speech and get it over with. The very first class the instructor said to prepare a 5-10 minute speech for the next class over what you did during the summer. I approached her after class and told her I cannot get up in front of people. She said the worst thing to me she could have by telling me I would probably be doing more talks than the other students then so I could get used to talking in front of others. See never saw me again!

I went directly to my counselor and told him I wanted to drop speech. He said it’s too early to drop it and for me to attend it for 2 weeks and then if I wanted to I could. I said okay, skipped that class for 2 weeks, and then dropped it. I ended up transferring to another college and low and behold was I happy to find out that speech wasn’t a requirement for an Accounting degree.

The bottom line is nobody needs to suffer from low self-esteem no matter what brought you down in the 1st place. Believe in yourself. You were created by God for great things and He knows no one can hold you back, not even yourself. So don’t be bashful; get out there and just do it.
