So you want to start your own home based business and you believe that doing it online is the way to go. You, also, have seen all the posts and ads about how easy it is to do online and since you know that you are a hard worker, a dedicated individual and that you want to help people, you believe that you will succeed.
I, for one, absolutely believe that you can succeed in this world of online or internet marketing! Next, you believe that working a full time job, your family obligations and your personal life will still allow you to be able to make the time to do build this successful online business. Heck, you have lots of time to sit down at your computer and type out some ads, post to your blog, talk to a few people, cause you know that everybody want to make money, and that what you will be marketing is just the cat’s pajama’s.
And, of course, you will now ignore all those online movies, games, the TV, poker night, stopping by the pub on the way home, etc. and start building your library because you are now committed.
Starting a business, even a part time one, means that you will have to develop one quality, one trait, one habit above all others, that is commitment.
Go out and ask any business owner how they developed and built their business, and as I live and breathe, they will tell you that the most important quality that you will have to develop is commitment. Not just commitment, but a total, all-consuming commitment, a level of commitment where you forget to eat and lose sleep, way too often.
Some will say it is belief, or passion, or education, or intelligence, or salesmanship, or wanting to help others, give back, or any number of traits.
I am sure you have heard this before, but intelligence is no substitute for hard work, that the world is littered with intelligent people with unaccomplished goals or unattained abilities. Anything and everything in your life will not grow without your committing yourself to it fully. There just simply is no such thing as part time when you desire something so badly that you will have it at any cost.
And, your commitment will extend beyond your desire to build a business, that desire of yours will have to extend to the people you will be working with, also.
What else will you have to commit to to build this business of yours?
Constant and continual education of your company, its products, its compensation plan, attending all the training seminars, both on and offline. While you are learning you should be assisted by the person that showed and helped you get involved in the program you are working with, at least that is what I hope for you, or you simply did not do the research you should have. And, if you did not, you are only hurting yourself and the people that you are bringing into your business. If you are not being assisted by that person, find the people that are higher up in the organization until you do find at least one that will assist you and work with you. This will go a long way in helping you and your team. But this is going off topic and will be followed up on at another time.
Next, on your commitment list is learning the industry, yes the whole of the industry. New and better ways of marketing always being developed, and you need to be in the forefront of these new and better developments, and then sharing and teaching what you have learned with your team.
Commitment means time, a lot of time, sure it can be part time, but part time takes time to build as you are only accomplishing part of your goals. Your time commitment means every day, and that means every day, and don’t get me wrong you can take a day off but it will pretty much have to be next year or the year after.
Commitment to your business, also, is key to your success. By this I mean that you will be seeing all kinds of ‘new & better’ programs and opportunities as you invest more and more time online. You will think, wow that looks so great and that looks easier and that program has successful people and, and, and, until you are blue in the face. When you have decided on the business that you will build, and that you will become successful at, there is no wavering, no hesitation, no hoping someone else will take it up and build it for you. As a great man once said ‘If it is to be it is up to me!’
If you are promoting three, four or more programs you are not committed, you are throwing mud against a wall and hoping some will stick. Each time you add more you are taking time away from the business you are committed to, that you have started and knew you were going to take to the top.
Commitment means focus, means through all the neigh sayers and quitters your focus does not waiver, no matter how much money and residual income you develop and then when it all comes tumbling down, your commitment does not waiver one iota. Yes, this may not happen to you, you may build the perfect business where everything goes just the way you expect it to, but I would like to just prepare you that this does happen, and it happens quite often to entreprene.urs. But, as you are totally committed this will not slow you down in the least, you will charge forward, learn from your experiences and incorporate what you have learned to build better, bigger and stronger.
You have decided to build your own business and now you are more committed to building it than ever before because you now know that that commitment is what it is going to take to become successful.
But, how do you stay committed when everything is falling down around you, when you build and others ‘take’ your team members away from you with big promises, or you take a couple days off because you have a special project on your job and just cannot get online and people get upset because you have not been there for them. Maybe your job or your family life is not going the way that you want, or you just do not want to work tonight….
How do you keep that level of commitment that will overcome all challenges?
