I came across this quote and it inspired me to write a blog. The quote said, “Don’t compare “you” with anyone in this world. If you do so, you are insulting yourself” – Allen Strike
That is such a powerful statement. We are all here to travel our own journey. So to compare “you” to someone that is on a different path is an “insult to yourself”. “All you can do is all you can do but all you can do is enough” - Art Williams. See your only competition is you.
I had someone tell me they got a “B” on a test in school. They asked me “Isn’t that good”. I told them “I don’t know. Why do you believe you got a “B” instead of an “A”? They said they just missed some spots because they didn’t pay close attention to the questions. I asked them, so do you believe you gave your all. They said “No”.
My response, “That answers your question on whether a “B” is good or not”. The person within is the only person that truly knows you. That person knows if you gave your all. Your all is all you can ask of yourself. If people are not happy with the results, that is their issue. The only person you have to answer to is the “Man in the Mirror”. That person in the mirror is your only competition in life.
Here is a different twist on “competition”. It was reported that Scott Brooks (Coach of the Thunders) said during his first year (when they were losing so many games), "We are not losing. We are learning ways to win." That was awesome. Most look at the scoreboard and call them losers. Scott understood that the real competition was everyone recognizing how they could compete against themselves and understanding the scoreboard was not their competition. Today, they are winning on the scoreboard too.
The real battle is never on the outside (others). Your competition is and will always be “You”. You have to look that person in the eye and expect them to do nothing more than to compete and figure out a way to enjoy this journey called life. Enjoying the journey really is the only thing in life that you need to compete for. Everything else you want in life will follow.
Do not “let you down”.
It ain’t right. It ain’t wrong. It’s just my opinion.
Your Partner in Success and Life Ron “Simplified” Myers
