Have you thought about researching your family? Do you know where your family came from? When you understand your past, the people and history that led up to you, then you can understand your present, and your future. You cannot find this out through a DNA test.
When you understand your past, the people and history that led up to you, then you can understand your present, and your future. You cannot find this out through a DNA test. Research is the first step in this journey. Compiling your family information that you have on hand is a important first step. We have all accumulated information on our lives and those of other family members. Compiling this information into a usable format is key to beginning your research.
So how do you start researching your family? Talk to family members, and record their memories. Ask them for any information they may have. Gather up at least copies of any papers or photos. Record your own memories of family members.
Compiling all of this information into a usable format is the next step. A pedigree chart is a good way to begin to work back in time, one step at a time. There will be many gaps, and pieces of missing information. You will need more research to help fill in those gaps and pieces, to understand the people, and work your way back.
When you understand your past, it helps you to map your own future. The insights you gain when you research your family can be life-changing. Your family's past can show you a great vision of your future, and the future of your descendants. Understanding why they did the things they did, good or not-so-good, can help you make wiser decisions in your own life.
You can do this research on your own. It takes time and work, and a lot of learning. And, sometimes, a trip to locate records. Not everything is online. If I can help with your research, drop me a note. With over 30 years of experience I can get it done quickly and correctly.
