Family Food Traditions

We all enjoy food.  Some of us a little to much.  Many of our special recipes and love for certain types of foods is handed down from family tradition.

My wife's family put together a wonderful cook book of family recipes that include family picture mixed in.  The recipes that are included in the book are ones that are popular in the extended family, but all trace many of their origins to parents and grandparents.  It was not until the recipes were all put together in the form of the book that family members realized where some of their favorites come from.

Another story within my wife's family was the tradition of kilbasa and blood soup on holidays.  This tradition was handed down by my wife's Grandmother Polish traditiuons.  This meal was always very popular within her family and continues to be a popular one today.

In my family we had the tradition of going to my Aunt and Uncle's for holidays.  We shared in food and many great stories.  I have many fond memories of these times.

Many families share in reunions in every year.  The focus here is the cosumption of food and the sharing of the family.  These moments become such a part of the fabric of our families that these traditions are organized every year.  This is where I got many of the old family stories in my own family.  It was also where I learned about my families lineage.

Does your family have traditions related to food?  Does it have connections to your families origins?  Family is everywhere in our lives.
