What saves a man is to take a step. Then another step. It is always the same step, but you have to take it.
Taking a step. Amazing. Taking a physical walking step was always an impossible step for me with some, assistance (people), physical equipment (leg braces, crutches, etc.) or objects to hold onto (furniture, etc.).
But I the view of the subject line not so much as a physical step but as psychological, positive attitude steps, including steps that need to be taken to be successful. Individuals define success in their own personal ways.
Absolutely everything, in my life was difficult for me being born with Cerebral Palsy. But I was extremely fortunate that a very high percentage of C.P. people are much worse physically effected than I. However, I never had a sence of balance in standing, my body never really cooperated with my mind with each and every task in my life. Which I termed, “A life long war between my body and mind”. My body does not listen or cooperate with my mind.
On top of all of that, in June 1994, I fell down in the bathroom and broke my neck. My forehead smacked against the bathroom wall. My neck, “cracked, just like a sound of a broken pencil… my ears rang, my eyes seen flashes of sparking stars. My body still had movement, there was still hope in my mind, but I was still scared, my body was cooperating even much less now with my mind, “move body, I must get to the phone and call 911”. There, I laid on the cold ceramic bathroom floor until my wife came home from work, maybe eight hours later.
Nearly eight months later, I was using a walker with the help of a friend and still not moving well but I was at least “walking” somewhat.
We set a goal to walk from my front door down the driveway up the street to the stop sign and back to my wheelchair. A distance of about five hundred and forty feet. Jim and I made our first trip took, that took us, one hundred minutes, in the hot summer sun, dreanched in sweat walking with a platform walker. After walking this same path every day, for weeks and weeks, our best time from my house to the stop sign and back was twenty-seven minutes. A big improvement from not being able to stand at one point.
Life continues, this war with my mind and body is much worse, with never a cease fire or real overall victory. But now, there are “little victories in this life long war” but do not feel bad or uncomfortable for me. There are millions of other people that are worse than I.
All of us needs “little victories” in life and little victories in our dreams and businesses, that is why “we just hang in there”.

| | |  | | Small victories are what makes life worth living. I can now drive a standard transmission vehicle. This from complete paralysis of the legs not that many years ago. Like Lonnie I will never have balance and walking will not be possible for any distance. Video emails and conferencing save trips to other cities so I can do business without leaving home. |
