Artificially Sweetened Drinks TRIPLE the Risk of Stroke and Dementia!

People who guzzle down diet fizzy drinks every day are three times more likely to suffer from a stroke or develop dementia, warns new research.

The study shows people who have at least one artificially-sweetened drink a day were 33% more likely to have a stroke and 29% as likely to develop Alzheimer's disease compared to those who avoid them...Ummmmm Read that AGAIN!

These scientists also said that sugary drinks should NOT be seen as a "healthier option" to full-fat versions, and urged people to switch to water or unsweetened drinks instead.

It may seem like a better option compared to sugary soda, but the science shows that this viewpoint falls flat. And now, we have even more reason to avoid sodas at all costs. Artifiicially sweetened drinks increase risk of stroke and dementia. In other words, it’s hammering your brain. Researchers at Boston University crunched the numbers and found that people who diet soda are nearly three times more likely to experience stroke and dementia.

And sugar-sweetened soda? That’s has it's issues, too. Let’s take a look at the latest research…

Artificially Sweetened Drinks Increase Risk of Stroke and Dementia

Researchers studied the soda-drinking tendencies of nearly 3,000 adults and found some shocking data on diet soda consumption.

When looking at people older than 45 years old for stroke and older than 60 for dementia, they found that drinking diet soda regularly almost triples your risk of developing stroke or dementia.

That risk held true even after considering other risk factors like overeating, diet quality, exercise levels and smoking.

But the Boston University research team did not stop there. They also investigated impacts of drinking regular soda. And while sugar-sweetened beverages were not associated with stroke or dementia, this type of soda comes with its own set of problems.

Whether it’s “real” sugar or we’re talking about high fructose corn syrup dangers related to soda, the science is perfectly clear.

The sugar industry scandal of the 1950s and ’60s set a dietary disaster into motion. Faulty sugar industry-funded studies shifted public perception, fooling people into "think fat," not sugar, was the nutritional out-law.

Now, we know better, understanding that healthy fats are vital for good health. But despite having this knowledge, too many people are downing soda. Excess sugar is a well-known heart disease trigger that causes major metabolic damage. But Boston University researchers wanted to see how drinking sugary soda, soft drinks and fruit juice impacts the human brain.

Using MRI imaging, cognitive tests and existing data, scientists found drinking more than two sugary drinks a day or more than 3 diet sodas a week results in smaller brain volume. We’re talking actual brain shrinkage here folks, reducing the size of the hippocampus.

It also sets accelerated brain aging into motion and results in poorer memory. These are all risk factors for early-stage Alzheimer’s. Even a diet soda a day results in smaller brain volume.

Fun Fact -

Bet you didn't know...Cannabinoids (CBD) can slow or even halt the progression of Alzheimer's Disease by improving the condition of communication pathways in the brain.

CBD works to reverse the neurological damage in the brain caused by Alzheimer's by establishing new neurons, in a process called neurogenesis.

Cannabinoids help to remove excess amyloid plaques from the brain by escorting them through the blood brain barrier, thereby reducing the progression of Alzheimer's.

Dementia related conditions that may be helped by CBD include: Alzheimer’s disease, Vascular Dementia, Dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), Parkinson’s disease, Frontotemporal dementia and Huntington’s disease.

According to researchers at California’s Salk Institute, their 2017 study has found evidence that cannabinoids such as CBD could help remove dementia from brain cells.

There are three ways which CBD can work to improve health outcomes for persons with dementia...

  • by reducing inflammation
  • by reducing oxygen build up
  • by working as a brain stimulant and neuroprotectant

From a user’s perspective, CBD may reduce stress and anxiety in the individual with dementia as well as reduce the decline of memory and other brain functions.

Other Conditions Linked to Diet Soda

Boston University showed the first connection between diet soda and dementia, but there’s a long list of medical research linking artificially sweetened drinks to a plethora of other health problems, including...

  • Depression. Drinking 4+ cans a day is linked to a 30 percent higher risk of depression.
  • Kidney Damage. Long-term diet soda drinking is linked to a 30 percent reduction in kidney function. Triple threat if you're Diabetic!
  • Type 2 Diabetes & Metabolic Syndrome. Drinking diet soda daily increases your risk of metabolic syndrome by 36 percent; it increases your risk of type 2 diabetes by 67 percent compared to non-diet soda drinkers.

People assume that because there is no sugar or calories in diet soft drink, it is a "freebie" that they can enjoy without any detrimental effects. But in more recent times the lid has been lifted on artificial sweetners and how dangerous they are to the human body.

Let's Look Closer...

  • AspartameMade from L-aspartyl-L-phenylalanyl-methyl-ester, aspartame is 200 times as sweet as sugar. Once in the human body, aspartame breaks down into phenylalanine (which is an amino acid found in some natural food products), aspartic acid, and methanol. Methanol is a wood alcohol poison that, when heated above 30 degrees Celcius (the human body temperature is 37 degrees), converts to formaldehyde. Formaldehyde-the stuff you see science experiements preserved in. Formaldehyde-the stuff used in the preparation of dead bodies for burial.
  • Acesulfame-KAnother artificial sweetner, acesulfame potassium contains methylene chloride, and long-term exposure may lead to a number of issues for people consuming it, including headaches, visual disturbances, mental confusion, nausea, depression, effects on the liver and kidneys. Methylene Chloride also has links to cancer!
  • Caffeine - We obviously take caffeine in our coffee, our tea, but when you’re ingesting caffeine you’re; getting addicted, consuming an artificial substance, taxing your liver, triggering stress hormones and dehydrating your body.
  • Artifical acids - The human body works ideally at an alkaline pH. There is a careful science that goes into it, but most processed foods are acidic and most natural foods are alkaline. There is a big issue with the western world, our bodies pH is too acidic due to the high amounts of processed foods we eat. Diet soft drinks is one of the most acidic things you can ingest. The acids in soft drinks demineralise your bones and teeth and can lead to osteoperosis. Acidity in your body also causes your skin to look less youthful and you get a haggard look.

Think about those anti-smoking ads you see sometimes. They have a long list of harmful ingredients that you’re breathing in. When you take a sip of diet coke, imagine you’re drinking a can of formaldehyde, pure caffiene, cancer causing molecules and corrosive acid. It’s not a pretty picture is it?

In fact I feel really sick writing this. Yet I still get sucked into the trap of thinking that because it’s diet coke, then it’s really not that bad for me. I’m not consuming any calories! It’s not going to effect my weight loss! I still drink diet coke. I’d even go to say I have a small level of addiction to it. But it’s bad for my health and that’s really what I’m going for here, the weight loss is just an awesome side effect. When my health suffers then I gain weight and my body is sick. Simple. Stop the Madness!

Final Thoughts...Artificially Sweetened Drinks Increase Risk of Stroke and Dementia!

  • Drinking diet soda regularly triples your risk of stroke and dementia.
  • Drinking one diet soda a day shrinks your brain volume.
  • Drinking sugary soda regularly actually reduces the size of your hippocampus, triggers accelerated brain aging and results in poorer memory. These are all early-stage Alzheimer’s risk factors.
  • Instead of drinking diet or regular soda, try tea. It can reduce your risk of Alzheimer’s by up to 86 percent.

WARNING: As a consumer you must be very careful of where you get your CBD from. A few high profile companies claimed that their products contained certain amounts of cannabidiol (CBD) and charged a hefty price for it, but when FDA tested those products, some of them did not have any CBD at all. Worst of all, many CBD products contained cheap synthetic CBD from shady overseas suppliers, and are falsely marketed as safe and natural CBD.

The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMMA) showed that out of all the CBD product tested, 88% had far less CBD than they claimed on the label.
